MY UPDATE PAGE
March 16, 2006. Thursday. I started off the day at 9:15am when Lydia arrived. She ran my bath and then in I went. She helped me dress and left about 10am. I next got a surprise visit from Sister Evelyn. I hadn't seen her for several months. She stayed for a few minutes and left about 10:30am.
Next to arrive was Judi the nurse from Hospice by the Bay. She was filing in for Maurice who was busy today. Judi stayed for a while. I showed her my film but she was so tired she fell asleep in the middle of it. When it was over she said she better go so I could get some sleep. I told her she was the one that needed to sleep. She said she only had 2 hours sleep last night. I told her she should not be driving like this. She said she still had 2 more appointments. I was concerned when she left about 2pm.
I next had to leave for an appointment with Carlos at New Leaf at 3pm. I got a cab and off I went. I met with Carlos for my regular appointment from 3pm until 3:50pm. I had a little trouble getting a cab back and almost ran out of oxygen. I made it back just as the level in the O pod got down to the red. Red means I am almost out of oxygen. Green means I still have plenty of pressure in the B tank.
I came up stairs and Maria Elena was here working. She had got me some food from the Chinese restaurant at 8th and Market. I warmed it up and ate it. Maria Elena stayed and washed clothes and cleaned until 5pm.
Next Michael Orlando came to have me sign the papers so he could be an IHSS worker. I sighed and he hung around for a while. He left at 6pm as Matt arrived.
Matt helped me file and we watched Law and Order together for until 8pm. Matt left.
Charles Sterck arrive at 8:10pm. I was glad to see him. He has been a good friend for a long time. He is also my accountant and got all of my paperwork for my taxes. We chatted for a while. I showed him my film and gave him a copy. He said that he was going to get me a scooter. My eyes lit up. I got really excited about that. I told him that would make my life a lot easier at this point. I would love a new scooter. Charles left at 10:30pm.
I turned on the TV and started typing this update.
I have had trouble breathing all day long. I feel it is a real strain to take a deep breath. Judi suggested I take the morphine. I told her I was thinking about it last night and again today but up until now hadn't taken it. If things get to rough tonight I may take it. I have been told by Maurice, Judi, and Dr. Cafaro that it would help relax my muscles in my chest. I am getting a sense that I am getting more and more towards the end. I am still ambulatory but I get very winded just going from my bed to the bathroom.
That's it for tonight.
Steve
